Trucks are designed for extensive heavy use, but some trucks are more durable and longer lasting than others. The heavy-duty Ram 3500 has a 31.9% estimated chance of reaching 250,000 miles, the highest of any truck in a new iSeeCars study, making it a leading longevity candidate for buyers who need heavy towing capability. Toyota takes first place among brands, with its Tacoma and Tundra leading midsize and full-size pickups, respectively.

iSeeCars Research analyzed odometer readings from over 41 million trucks to estimate which models are most likely to reach 250,000 miles.

Specifications are for the 2026 model year. Towing and payload figures are model maximums; always verify the ratings for a specific configuration.

The second-place Honda Ridgeline offers a different combination. Its 13.7% longevity probability exceeds the segment average, while its listed maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds is the lowest here. Its unibody construction and independent suspension emphasize ride comfort, making it relevant to buyers whose truck also serves as everyday transportation.

For greater towing capacity, the GMC Canyon ranks third for longevity and shares the segment’s highest listed towing limit with the Chevrolet Colorado at 7,700 pounds.

Toyota’s Tundra leads full-size trucks

Longest Lasting Full-Size Trucks 2026 - iSeeCars study
Rank Model Chance of reaching 250,000 miles Compared with average Maximum towing (lb.) Maximum payload (lb.) Cab configurations Bed lengths (in.) Available drivetrains

6 Ram 1500 4.2% 0.5x 11,610 2,360 Crew cab, Extended cab 67.4, 76.3 4X2, 4X4, AWD
Specifications are for the 2026 model year, except the Nissan Titan’s which are for the 2024 model year. Towing and payload figures are model maximums; always verify the ratings for a specific configuration.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Nissan Titan, and GMC Sierra 1500 take the next three positions, all near the segment average. Among these alternatives, the Silverado and Sierra offer higher maximum towing capacities than the Tundra, plus regular-cab configurations. Their longevity estimates are also close enough that a buyer’s preferred configuration could be more important than their ranking order.

The Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 finish fifth and sixth, with probabilities of 5.2% and 4.2%. The F-150 has the highest listed towing capacity in this group, at 13,500 pounds, and the Ram has the highest payload maximum, at 2,360 pounds. Buyers needing those capabilities should weigh them separately from longevity.

Ram 3500 and GMC Sierras lead heavy-duty longevity

9 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD 11.7% 0.7x 36,000 7,290 Crew cab, Extended cab, Regular cab 82.2, 98.3 4X2, 4X4
Specifications are for the 2026 model year. Towing and payload figures are model maximums; always verify the ratings for a specific configuration.

The top two models pair their longevity results with listed towing maximums of at least 36,000 pounds. That combination is particularly relevant to owners choosing a truck for a heavy trailer. The Sierra 2500HD provides another above-average longevity option, but with a lower towing capacity.

Ford’s F-350 and F-450 rank fourth and fifth, relatively close to the segment average. The F-450 also has the highest towing capacity in the study, at 40,000 pounds. The F-250 ranks eighth at 13.4%, ahead of the last-place Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD at 11.7%. Even that final result exceeds the overall truck average, demonstrating how a low position within this group does not necessarily mean low longevity.

What to consider before buying a truck

Vehicle History Report

Methodology

iSeeCars Research analyzed data from over 41 million trucks. The average odometer reading for each truck was calculated at each yearly age, and a proprietary model based on these average mileages was developed to estimate the probability that each truck would survive to various mileage thresholds. These probability data were also aggregated at the brand level. In addition, various truck specifications from the 2026 model year were included, with the exception of the Nissan Titan whose specs came from the 2024 model year.
