That said, the Chrysler Pacifica, too, has a few tricks up its sleeve. Competitive advantages for the Pacifica include an optional, fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, available all-wheel drive, and an outstanding Uconnect infotainment system. However, the pricing advantage goes to the Odyssey; a new base-model Odyssey costs about $5K less than the cheapest Pacifica. The two vans' engine size, horsepower, and tow ratings are comparable, though the Odyssey offers one additional gear in its transmission (the Pacifica PHEV uses a continuously variable transmission or CVT). Despite not offering blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert as standard on the entry-level LX, the Odyssey earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
