Best Supercharged Sedans for 2024
These are the best supercharged sedans based on iSeeCars' analysis of each vehicle’s reliability, resale value and safety.
The best supercharged large car is the Dodge Charger (8.7 quality rating).
iSeeCars has identified the best supercharged sedans across several categories and ranked them below. The models are ranked by their iSeeCars quality score, which take reliability, resale value, and safety into consideration, with the best cars scoring well in all three areas. Most of these models are high performance cars meant to offer sports-car-like acceleration and handling with sports sedan practicality, though many are also luxury sedans focused on premium materials and comfort as much or more than all-out performance specs.
The benefits of a supercharged powertrain include a substantial improvement in horsepower, along with increased low-speed throttle response, faster acceleration, and a higher top speed. Despite this list of benefits, supercharged cars are not common, with many going away in recent years due to rising fuel economy standards.
Turbocharging technology is a more common approach to improved performance in modern vehicles. Turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 engines can be more fuel efficient than a supercharged V8 yet offer almost as much performance. While American brands like Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge and Ford are known for their V8 engines, import brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Toyota have been leveraging turbo (and twin-turbo) technology for decades to balance performance with mpg targets.
Buyers seeking new or recently discontinued used cars with supercharged engines can still find some. American muscle cars like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, and Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 coupes still feature supercharged V8s with over 600 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Buyers seeking more practical, four-door options can consider the Cadillac CTS-V or CT5-V sedans, or the four-door Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
Non-American luxury car options include the Audi A7, Jaguar XF, and Volvo S90. While most supercharged V8 cars from America are rear-wheel drive, these import brands get the benefit of offering all-wheel drive (AWD). Sadly, both American and import automakers have largely walked away from manuals, leaving only automatic transmissions for enthusiasts to engage with while enjoying their supercharged engine.
While supercharged sedans are rare and getting rarer, today’s technology is making turbocharging technology nearly as effective in terms of performance, and far superior with regard to fuel efficiency. If you can’t find a supercharged sedan that meets your needs, consider a turbocharged alternative.
How We Rank These Cars
The best supercharged cars rank vehicles by iSeeCars Score which is based on our proprietary assessment of a vehicle’s reliability, resale value and safety (based on ratings from IIHS and NHTSA).
iSeeCars Score is an analysis of three factors: reliability, resale value and safety. It is calculated based on the latest research and analysis by our data science team. The data analysis comes from over 12 million new and used vehicles in our Longest-Lasting Cars and 5-Year Depreciation Studies, combined with NHTSA and IIHS Safety Ratings.
Vehicles are scored in three categories:
Reliability
The reliability score represents an analysis of iSeeCars' proprietary research on the longest-lasting vehicles.
Value Retention
The value retention score is based on our data science team's statistical analysis and prediction of 5-year depreciation from MSRP to determine which cars hold their value best, using US Bureau of Labor Statistics data to adjust for inflation.
Safety
The safety score is calculated based on the last five years of crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and incorporates the latest Top Safety Pick information from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
