Most Reliable Car Brands for 2025
The iSeeCars brand reliability ratings indicate how dependable and long-lasting each car brand is based on the durability of its models.
Identifying the most reliable vehicles is more important than ever in today’s new and used car market. Reliable models not only save you time and money during ownership, they also tend to hold their value better, meaning you’ll get more money back when it’s time to sell or trade your vehicle for a new car, or even a newer model year used car. And with the cost of cars at an all-time high it’s important to include reliability ratings in your car-buying research.
That’s why iSeeCars has created a reliability score to rank automotive models within each brand. This score reflects each vehicle’s long-term durability, rewarding models with high-quality powertrains that hold up over time. These rankings cover all vehicle types, from high-performance sports cars and coupes to family-friendly minivans and crossovers to low-cost hatchbacks and subcompacts. Luxury brands, compact SUVs and electric vehicles are also included.
Browsing our rankings, you can see reliability isn’t limited to full-size trucks like the Chevy Silverado or Japanese midsize sedans like the Toyota Camry. Automakers with high reliability models include both luxury cars like the Lexus GX as well as mainstream models like the Honda CR-V.
As a brand, Toyota has perhaps the best reputation for reliability due to its wide range of models that have performed well over the past few decades. These include the Toyota Corolla, RAV4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra and 4Runner. But other brands have moved up in the rankings by offering very durable cars, trucks, and SUVs, including Ford, Hyundai, and Subaru.
Of course reliability isn’t the only thing to consider when researching your next car. Other factors, like fuel economy, safety, and infotainment features, must be taken into account. The best cars will score well in all of these areas, earning the top spot on your purchase list. But if you start the filtering process by identifying high reliability models you can avoid the headaches that come from buying a less dependable vehicle.
How We Rank These Cars
The iSeeCars brand reliability ratings indicate how dependable and long-lasting each car brand is based on the durability of its models
The best brands offer models with the highest reliability ratings within their respective vehicle segments. For example, Toyota is perhaps the best brand for reliability, as a number of its models are ranked number one in their categories. Along with the rankings and Reliability scores, we show comprehensive iSeeCars ratings for each brand’s models, because we believe multiple factors should be taken into account when buyers are seeking the best overall vehicle. Two of these factors are safety and resale value, both of which are included in our ratings system.
The overall iSeeCars Score is an analysis of these three factors: reliability, resale value and safety. It is calculated based on the latest research and analysis by our data science team. The data analysis comes from over 12 million new and used vehicles in our Longest-Lasting Cars and 5-Year Depreciation Studies, combined with NHTSA and IIHS Safety Ratings.
Vehicles are scored in three categories:
Reliability
The reliability score represents an analysis of iSeeCars' proprietary research on the longest-lasting vehicles.
Value Retention
The value retention score is based on our data science team's statistical analysis and prediction of 5-year depreciation from MSRP to determine which cars hold their value best, using US Bureau of Labor Statistics data to adjust for inflation.
Safety
The safety score is calculated based on the last five years of crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and incorporates the latest Top Safety Pick information from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
