2018 Nissan Titan XD

The Nissan Titan XD is unique in the pickup truck segments because it fits between the standard half-ton and larger three-quarter ton trucks. It's a heavy-duty half-ton truck with more towing and power than most standard half-ton pickups, but less capability and a lower price than its medium-duty peers.

The 2018 Nissan Titan XD comes in a variety of cab configurations with multiple bed lengths, and varied trim packages to meet the needs of commercial and consumer buyers. Both gasoline and diesel engine options are available. It seats up to six, depending on the configuration, with towing capacities ranging up to well over 12,000 pounds. Both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive are available.

Although it's a solid truck with the best warranty in the segment, the 2018 Titan XD has its quirks. New pickup designs entering the market are equal or nearly equal to the Titan XD's capabilities, perhaps making the XD outdated.

2017 Nissan Titan XD

The 2017 Nissan Titan XD is now offered as both a diesel-powered and gasoline-powered pickup working in between the light duty (half-ton) and medium-duty (three-quarter ton) markets. A heavy-duty half-ton, the Titan XD has more towing and pulling ability than its half-ton counterparts, but less than its three-quarter ton peers.

Having driven both the Cummins diesel-powered Titan XD and the V8 Endurance gasoline model, we found that most buyers in need of more capability than the average half-ton will likely find a match in the Titan XD. Drivers towing a lot of loads will prefer the diesel, while those only occasionally pulling a heavy camper or horse trailer will find the gasoline option to be just fine.

The Nissan Titan XD is offered in a variety of cab and bed length configurations and in both rear-wheel and 4-wheel drive.

2016 Nissan Titan XD

Trying to make a name for yourself in full-size trucks is a seemingly impossible task. The likes of Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, and Ram dominate it and try to one up each other every year with improvements or new models. That doesn't automakers don't give it a shot. Nissan and Toyota have trying to make inroads into this class for more than a decade. Out of the two, Toyota has been the successful one as they have improved their contender, the Tundra over the years. The same cannot be said for the Nissan Titan. Unlike most truck manufacturers that offer a wide range of cabs, bed lengths, and engines, the Titan only offered a small range of cab and bed sizes, and one V8 engine. The lack of configurations and Nissan not doing anything major for the eleven years the Titan was on sale built meant it was well behind the pack/

But Nissan isn't giving up. For 2016, the Japanese automaker is launching a two-prong attack. First is a redesigned half-ton Titan that will offer a variety of cabs, bed lengths, and engines. Second is a new model that fits between a half-ton and three-quarter ton truck called the Titan XD. This ‘five-eighth ton' truck is said to offer more hauling capability than a half-ton, while getting better fuel economy and a smoother ride than three-quarter ton trucks.
