RWD An acronym for Rear Wheel Drive. This describes a vehicle that utilizes the rear wheels as the main drive wheels for the vehicle.
TPMS An acronym for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This is a system that utilizes sensors in the vehicle's wheels to monitor tire pressure. When pressure becomes too low or too high a warning light is triggered in the vehicle cabin.
VVT An acronym for Variable Valve Timing. VVT allows the internal-combustion engine in the vehicle to change the valve timing while the vehicle is running. This timing has a significant impact on engine performance.
VIN An acronym for Vehicle identification Number. Each vehicle has a unique VIN number that is used to identify it, typically listed on both the door placard and the VIN plate on the driver's side of the dashboard near the windshield.
Side Knee Airbag An airbag that deploys from the panel directly next to the driver's knee, protecting it from being crushed in the event of a major collision.
Side Curtain airbag An airbag that deploys from the side of the driver/passenger to protect the head and side of the body from collision.
Rebate An amount of money given back to the consumer as an incentive for purchase.
Document Handling Charge/Prep Fee A negotiable fee charged by the dealership for handling all of the documentation and paperwork necessary to complete the sale.
Dealer Prep Fee A negotiable fee that is sometimes passed on to customers, which covers the dealership's cost of preparing the vehicle for sale. This can include removing plastic coverings, installing license plate brackets, setting the vehicle's computer, cleaning the vehicle, and adding fluids.
8-Cylinder Engine An engine that contains eight internal combustion cylinders, most commonly in a V-shape with four cylinders per side.
5-Cylinder Engine An engine that contains five internal combustion cylinders, typically all in a row.
4-Cylinder Engine An engine that contains four internal combustion cylinders, typically all in a row.
6-Cylinder Engine An engine that contains six internal combustion cylinders, sometimes all in a row, also referred to as inline-6, but more commonly in a V-shape with three cylinders per side.
10-Cylinder Engine An engine that contains ten internal combustion cylinders, most commonly in a V-shape with five cylinders per side.
12-Cylinder Engine An engine that contains ten internal combustion cylinders, most commonly in a V-shape with six cylinders per side.
Push, Pull, Drag An incentive term that describes trade-in value for a dealership. It offers a set amount of money for a trade-in, regardless of condition.
Trade-In An item, most commonly another vehicle, which is traded toward the purchase of a new vehicle from a dealership.
APR Annual Percentage Rate. This is the acronym which explains the amount of interest you'll be paying on your vehicle loan. It is accrued annually.
Extended Warranty An optional warranty that will take effect after the manufacturer's warranty expires. Extended warranties do not typically cover everything that a manufacturer's warranty covers, and many include deductibles that must be made for any repairs.
ABS Anti-Lock Brake Systems employ a safety sensor on each wheel that allows the vehicle to maintain better traction in the event of a slide.
