Car Insurance Companies

The laws in every state of the United States and the District of Columbia require cars to be insured and the owners to carry car insurance. But trying to figure out which car insurance companies serve your state is often difficult, as many well-known companies are headquartered elsewhere. You could ask friends, and this is always good for getting recommendations, particularly if they have had good experience with one or more car insurance companies. But why not do your own research as well? With the iSeeCars tool here you can find the best auto insurance companies serving your state.  It is all based on data that we pull from each state?s Department of Insurance, including complaints data and data from other sources. How it works is really simple. You select the state you want to check and click the Search button. The results will display the state, name of the car insurance companies that service the state, premium share (percent), premiums written (in millions of dollars), number of policies, number of complaints, and complaint ratio/index. You can even get a free insurance quote by clicking on the link next to the car insurance company you are considering. What could be easier? This is a quick and convenient way to search out the best auto insurance companies.

Note:Some states calculate a Complaint Index instead of a Complaint Ratio. Specifically, the states are Indiana, Oregon, Missouri, Maine. In general, the smaller the index, the better in terms of less share of complaints when compared to other insurance companies.
  • Indiana: A complaint index of 1.00 means the insurer?s share of all complaints received is equal to its share of all the business written in Indiana. An index of 2.00 means that the insurer?s share of complaints is twice as large as its share of business written in Indiana An index of 0.50 means that the insurer?s share of complaints is half as large as its share of business. Basically, the smaller the complaint index, the better.
  • Oregon: A complaint index of 1.00 means the insurer's share of confirmed complaints is equal to its share of business in Oregon. A complaint index of 2.00 means that the company's share of confirmed complaints is twice as large as its share of business.
  • Missouri: An index of 100 indicates that a company received complaints at a rate equal to the industry average. An index of 10 indicates that a company?s complaint ratio is only 10 percent of the industry average, while an index of 235 indicates a complaint ratio is 135 percent greater than the industry average.
  • Maine: A complaint index of 1 is average. Less than 1 is better than average. Greater than 1 is worse than average.
