Advice ref buying Land Rover Defender 90?

Hi, I have the opportunity to buy a 1989 Land Rover Defender 90, it is the two door version with hard top cab at the back, mileage is average for its age, condition is not bad just a few rusty bits, mostly cosmetic, underneath nice and sound, the MOT runs out in March 2008, the guy wants £800, is this a reasonable amount considering its age and type? I only want it as a runaround and to get me to and from work mostly for the winter months. Thanks in advance. Mike
