Buying Ford?

I am currently looking for inexpensive but decent used cars, and kind of noticed that Ford cars tend to go a bit cheaper than other brands. I had Honda Civic before, and since I don't know much about cars, I would like to know what kind of differences I should expect re: transmission, how reliable cars are, gas milage etc. Thanks!
Also, if you recommend any other "inexpensive but reliable" brands, please let me know!
