New clutch for 92 dodge colt manual? - I have a 1992 Dodge Colt 5 speed. It has a mitsubishi engine in it (not sure if thats the original). Now i believe the clutch is going. I have to hold it in first, i does not like second at all, but 3 on up are great. I am not a great mechanic, i know enough to change brake pads and roters, but thats as deep as i go. I have a friend who says he can put the clutch in, but i want to get the right one. I am going to assume, but not completly sure, that i need a 1.5l five speed clutch. i was all set to buy it, then realized there are 1.6 and 2.0l clutches. Not sure if that makes a difference. If anyone could let me know if A.) yes it sounds like a clutch problem, not tranny and B.) what 5 speed clutch is needed. Thanks a ton.

What car should I buy for my first car? - So, I've been advised to buy a an old VW bug or bus or a jeep cherokee and to be honest I'm interested but not as much as the ones who have advised me to would like me to be. I'm looking for something under like 2k but i don't want to have the same car as every 18 year old's '97 acura or '91cressida but i was thinking about this unsung classic '74 dodge colt. but i'm really into muscle cars so any ideas, please let me know.

My 1994 Ford Escort got 50 MPG when I bought it new. Why can car companies make economic cars like this now? - Even my husband's Pinto got 35 MPG. Dodge Colt got 45 MPG. Now seems the best mileage cars can get is about 28 to 30 MPG. What went wrong?

How can you tell if a Distributor's timing is off? Help!? - Hello! So I bought a 1995 Dodge Colt, manual transmission, at the beginning of the summer and had a tune-up right away, where the mechanic said all was well with the car. Throughout the summer problems revealed themselves and I finally decided to get the car checked again. About two and a half weeks ago I took my car in to get a wheel rotation and asked the mechanic to also check the engine, as it didn't have a lot of power in it (it was so weak... so so weak). He called me back and I found out that the bolt on the distributor wasn't on, letting the distributor distribute power erroneously. As a result, the timing was way off and when the sparks went off to give power to the engine, the pistons were already half way down, thereby giving little or no power to the engine (or something like that, I'm speaking out of very late memory). My father thinks that the mechanic I took this car to at the beginning of the summer when I first bought it, either took the bolt on the distributor off, or "somehow" missed the fact that it didn't have one (which would make them a very bad mechanic indeed). I'm very paranoid about mechanics now, and people taking the bolt off, and I'm obsessed about the power of the engine. When I got my car back from the other guy, there was a hell of a lot more power in the engine! I've taken the car in since to get new wheels and an oil change and can't help thinking, "Did they do something to the distributor? Did they?!" So the BIG question is: How can you tell if the timing is off a distributor. Thank you in advance!

Car Battery is putting out 17v instead of the normal 12v. Electrical problem? - Alright so I bought a 91 Dodge Colt 2DR FWD Hatchback about 2 weeks ago and its been fine until a few days ago. I first noticed a problem when my lights (in/out) were pulsating like dimming and brightening. Yesterday it was running fine for about 45 minutes and it died then I got it started and a few miles down the road it died again. Luckily I got it started and it ran for a while no issues for about 4 hours and then it died again but this time i couldnt get it started. I pushed it and waited for a while and got it started again then it shortly died. when i tried to restart it that time it made a clicking sound when i tried to turn it over. A couple hours later i got it started and luckily got it to Sears. I got a new battery put in and they tested my alternator and it was new so no issue there but my problem is that my battery instead of putting out 12v like its supposed to its putting out 17v and draining my battery. I have no idea what to do besides take it to a mechanic. If anyone has any ideas it really appreciated. Thanks.

Car advice? - I'm looking to buy myself a car, but I am not extremely knoledgable of vehicles in general. This is a description of the car I'm thinking of buying: It's a 1993 Dodge Colt (go on Google Images if you don't know what it looks like) it has 200 000 km on it, and the description says that its in running condition. I don't think it has been emission tested or safetied, but it's priced at $300 CDN. I want to buy a cheap car, but not one that is going to break. The info is sort of sketchy, but it's really just a $300 car with 200 000 km on it, and it looks a bit like a Chevy Cavalier or Pontiac Sunfire. Should I consider buying this car, based on this info?

Mitsubishi Mirage Good Car? - Im thinking about buying a 94 Mirage sedan with 123k miles. It has the 1.8l 4 cyl. with automatic transmision. Is this a good car reliability wise? My aunt previously owned a 93 Dodge Colt sedan. Exact same car and engine. She only owned it a month before my uncle blew it up so that why im asking about reliability. Hers had 170k miles and was still running great. It got about 40 mpg and i really like the design of the car. She didnt drive her car hard so I dont know how fast 0-60 acceleration is,but when passing a car she would be going 90+ with out even knowing it. The Mirage im looking at is $900, im gonna try to get the guy down to $800. The front seats needs seat covers and thats about it. It does need a muffler but I can get that from my aunts colt, heck I could probably buy the whole thing for $50 and use it for parts. I just talked to the guy and told him how much ive seen the prices of 2001 with 60k miles. He immediately dropped the price to $600. Im not concerned that this vehicle has high millage well its not high in my books. The car I currently drive is an '88 dodge caravan with a mitsubishi engine and it has 387,092 miles as of now and still going. I payed $20 for it and its lasted me over 3,000 miles. Never ever expected it to.
