I'm thinking about buying a Buick Rendezvous - any advise?

I want to know if they are good family cars - I have two small children. Also, do they get good fuel mileage and are they safe cars.
If you own one let me know what you like or dislike about it!!

We were charged $350 to have the rotors machined and the front brake pads replaced. Does this sound reasonable? I'm ok with paying for the brake pads but to machine the rotors it cost us $180?? I feel like this should have been done for the 150+ pt inspection that they apparently do before you buy it! It had 69000 k when we bought it 3 months ago, now it has 71000 k.
